Con Corazon: From Tradition to Tomorrow

The first time I heard Marichi music, my heart opened, and my love for music forever changed. It's a passion that has shaped much of my high school journey, from playing guitar to performing as a soloist and leading my high school's Choir Club as Vice President. On this page, I share some of the moments that have brought me the most joy from singing at community events, high school shows, to performing in musicals like "Mean Girls" and "Emma!", or singing for the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe at my church. My love for music, my academic drive, and community engagement are the three anchors that reflect who I am. I have loved my journey thus far and look for a college community where I can find a path that weaves art and community.
El Dia de La Virgen de Guadalupe is an important day of celebration not only as part of my faith but also because of the deep connection to my culture. It was an honor to contribute my voice to this imporatnt tradition, an experience that goes beyond performance and is part of a shared spiritual moment for my community.
As a Junior, I performed as Regina George on the musical "Mean Girls." It was an opportunity explore the complexities of character development and leadership. Playing a role that was so central to the production taught me to lead by example It was far more than a great performance and allowed me to explore storytelling through music much more deeply.
Sharing my love for music with my peers at the Statewide CLYLP Conference. Participants were selected based on demonstrated leadership qualities, grades and teacher recommendation. Amor Eterno is song that will always remind me of the loved ones we've lost.
I am a very motivated student, and to further my academic passion, I participated in the Academic Talent Development Program (ATDP) at UC Berkeley in 9th and 10th grade, where I took rigorous summer coursework in Public Speaking Intro and Social Psychology.
My commitment to community engagement has been a central part of my high school experience. In 10th grade, I was selected to participate in the
California Chicano Latino Youth Leadership Project. The Statewide Leadership Conference brought together student leaders from across California for a week-long, program to enhance leadership skills, academic preparedness, and cultural awareness.
I'm a Youth Leader with the Dolores Huerta Foundation through the LYFE Program, which teaches low-income youth and their families about art, technology, and civic engagement. I've been involved since 9th grade and have participated in "Get out the Vote" efforts, community canvassing, and helped develop a youth podcast.
I have been diligent about finding ways to exercise leadership that supports the advancement of all students. Following my participation in CLYLP, I volunteered to support students in the program after my junior year. As a member of the Tiger Pride Crew, I was one of two students selected to help improve the school culture and create a better environment for all students in my Junior year.
I've been dancing since I was four, and I'm currently a dancer and elementary class assistant instructor for Ballet Folklorico Sol del Valle from 9th through 12th grade. I also participate in competitive dance and serve as a peer instructor for younger students.
I have been playing guitar and performing as a soloist with a mariachi team, Mariachi Los Reyes, since 9th grade. The group primarily plays mariachi music, but we also perform contemporary music.
